Baby’s Only Premium Vs. Kendamil Organic First – which infant formula is better?

With more infant formulas on the market today, it can be difficult to choose a formula that’s right for your family. We break down two popular infant formulas, Kendamil and Baby’s Only, to help you determine which is right for your baby. Read below for more.
Especially in the last few years, parents are looking more and more for organic and quality ingredients in infant formula for their babies. Formula labels can be confusing – how do you really know what ingredients are included?
As an infant feeding specialist and certified breastfeeding counselor, I break down the basics of two popular infant formulas: Baby’s Only and Kendamil.
Baby’s Only Infant Formula
Baby’s Only is a US based, organic infant and toddler formula line. They are known for their quality products, independent manufacturing in Ohio, and dignified domestic jobs. Baby’s Only prides themselves on having better control and oversight of their manufacturing ensuring quality in every can, while keeping prices affordable. Baby’s Only is available in Target, Whole Foods, Amazon and on the Baby’s Only website through one time purchases or subscriptions. Many consider Baby’s Only to be the best kept secret in formula, as it’s been around for 20+ years, and is sold at most large retailers.
Kendamil Infant Formula
Kendamil is a privately-owned baby formula brand made in the United Kingdom (UK) that has been in business for more than 60 years. Kendamil has 2 formula varieties that are recently available at Target stores in the United States: Kendamil Classic First infant formula and Kendamil Organic First infant formula. Kendamil became available to the U.S. market under the FDA enforcement discretion as part of Operation Fly Formula; a plan to increase infant formula supply in the United States during the infant formula shortage.
Baby’s Only vs. Kendamil comparison
We break down the similarities and differences in these infant formulas below.
Baby’s Only Premium Specs:
- USDA Organic

- 100% lactose for carbohydrate source, no corn syrup or maltodextrin
- contains no palm oil (palm oil free)
- contains soy
- Available in store (Target, Walmart, Whole Foods), Amazon and DTC online
- Budget friendly
Kendamil Organic First Specs:
- USDA Organic
- 60% whey, 40% casein whey:casein ratio (modeled after protein composition of mature human breastmilk)
- 100% lactose for carbohydrate source, no corn syrup or maltodextrin
- contains no palm oil (palm oil free)
- contains no soy (soy free)
- Available in store (Target, Walmart) and DTC online
- Organic option is more expensive per oz
Similarities:
Both Baby’s Only Premium and Kendamil First Organic are both USDA organic infant formulas. Both formulas are non-GMO and use lactose as the carbohydrate source. Both Kendamil and Baby’s Only have intact proteins (they are not hydrogenated). Additionally, the formulas offer the same whey to casein ratio of 60/40, which is modeled after the whey to casein ratio found in mature human breastmilk. Both formulas are palm oil free.
Differences:
Key differences between Baby’s Only and Kendamil are that Kendamil does contain human milk oligosaccharides (HMOs) and a difference in the fat blends. Baby’s Only Premium fat blend contains sunflower, soy and coconut oil, while Kendamil Organic First contains whole milk fat, sunflower, coconut and canola oils. There is a large price difference per ounce between Kendamil First Organic and Baby’s Only Premium, where Baby’s Only is more affordable.
Conclusion
If you’re looking for a US based, affordable, budget friendly, organic infant formula option, Baby’s Only Premium infant formula is a great choice. There are few differences between Kendamil’s Organic option and Baby’s Only besides the addition of soy to Baby’s Only. Baby’s Only is more easily available at big retailers, however, both formulas are available online.
