Time change and daylight savings time tend to throw kids off for a bit! We all get used to our routines and schedules, and babies as toddlers do too. However, there are some things you can do to prepare your little one and yourself for the change in time.
FALL BACK
This time change happens in the fall and is when we set our clocks BACK one hour. For example, if it’s 7am (old time) then it becomes 6am on Daylight Savings. This tends to be a harder transition for babies and toddlers. Our internal clocks tend to wake us at the same times, so pushing back an hour can be hard. Use my gradual approach in my FREE Daylight Savings Tips – Fall Back e-guide here! This approach prepares you the week before the time change to have your baby adjusted by the weekend.
SPRING FORWARD
This time change tends to be a bit easier for kids because we are waking them an hour earlier and getting on schedule. For example, if it’s 7am (old time) then it becomes 8am (you would be waking your baby or child at the new 6am and starting your day). Try to resist the urge to sleep in – I know it’s tempting! But getting on track will help with appropriate wake times, naps and bedtimes. It’s a bit easier to go “cold turkey” with Spring Forward, however you can download my FREE Daylight Savings Tips -Spring Forward e-guide here for a gradual approach.
