This post is about the neonatal ICU🤍 It’s #nu This post is about the neonatal ICU🤍 It’s #nursesweek - and we’ve seen the neonatal ICU from all sides. Natalie, Kate and Lauren all were NICU nurses for 5-10 years and worked together at the same hospital! Kate and Deema’s very own babies had NICU stays (meconium aspiration and IUGR).

Being the nurse and then being the parent gives a whole new perspective to how I cared for my patients 🤍 Your patient (the baby) isn’t your only patient. It’s the entire family 🤍

Many people think of NICU as “feeder/growers” or premature babies. But there are many other reasons babies can go to the NICU:
▫️respiratory distress
▫️a heart condition or surgical issue needed to be tended to right after birth
▫️multiples (twins, triplets +)
▫️respiratory distress after birth
▫️blood sugar instability
▫️a genetic disorder
▫️infection
▫️+ so many more!

Our patients and families are true warriors - we love to see our patients grow up and keep in touch with families. We love and honor those who are no longer earth side 🤍 It’s without a doubt the most special place in the world.

Happy Nurses Week to all of us who work so hard to change the world, one little, teeny tiny step at a time.
Milk bags taking up too much space in your freezer Milk bags taking up too much space in your freezer?? Save room (and prevent accidental punctures) with this milk baggie tip! 🍼 comment bag for a link to our favorite milk storage options!

Getting all the air out of your milk baggie will not only save room in your freezer, but will prevent accidental punctures! After removing air, lay flat on a cookie sheet in freezer for easy storage or to make breastmilk/expressed milk bricks. Check out our “storing breastmilk” blog post for more info — link in profile to blog.

DON’T FORGET TO SAVE THIS POST FOR LATER! 🤍

PS: We love these @lansinoh baggies! They have a double zip to prevent against leaks. Remember that expressed human milk should only be stored in sterile milk baggies, see our IG guides on storing human milk for more info.

HERE’S WHY YOUR BABY WON’T TAKE A BOTTLE OR PA HERE’S WHY YOUR BABY WON’T TAKE A BOTTLE OR PACI:

The top reasons I see bottle refusal and pacifier refusal as a NICU RN and certified breastfeeding counselor is this:

1. A high arched palate (roof of mouth)
This is a normal findings (some babies have high palates and some have regular arched palates). A high arched palate can make it difficult for baby to latch to a bottle or pacifier

2. Wrong bottle nipple shape
Using the wrong shaped bottle nipple makes it harder to baby to latch deeply, causing frustration and disinterest/refusal of the bottle

3. Stiff/not flexible pacifiers
Baby can’t latch and will gag or lose interest

4. Poor timing for bottle or introducing the bottle too late
Babies have a sucking reflex that diminishes about 6-8 weeks. If a bottle is introduced too late, baby will likely refuse. Babies are more likely to refuse if they are over tired, over hungry, or not hungry enough.

So what’s the magic?! It takes a professional to tie all of these things together!

Check out the Zoe Traveler in action! As a mom to three busy kiddos, the Traveler is BY FAR the best and easiest stroller to use while we are running around the city or traveling. It’s small and compact, but it is mighty! I love how easy it is to toss into the back of our car or in an overhead bin on a plane while traveling. It’s super lightweight (only 12 pounds!) and can be collapsed with just one hand which is a necessity when you are out and about with multiple children.

Whether it’s walking through a crowded museum or zooming through a busy airport, I love how the Traveler is easy to navigate one-handed (even my 7 year old can do it!) and is sturdy enough for my 5 year old to hop in when her legs need a break. Ready to make your life a little bit easier for all of your spring and summer travel?! Time to get yourself the Zoe Traveler! Comment ZOE for a discounted link

Baby’s Only has created an organic plant-based p Baby’s Only has created an organic plant-based pea protein toddler drink to use after your baby’s first birthday as a cow’s milk alternative.

As parents, we are all concerned with the foods we consume and the foods we feed our kids and babies. There is so much information out there about feeding your infant, but not as much guidance for when your infant turns to a toddler. It is only natural to wonder what to feed your child to maximize their nutrition. More and more parents are choosing non-dairy options these days; whether due to an allergy or personal preference.

Baby’s Only Plant-Based Pea Protein toddler drink is:

✅USDA organic
✅uses non-GMO ingredients
✅dairy-free, soy protein free
✅gluten-free
✅contains no palm oil (palm oil free)(palm oil has been linked to constipation in infants)
✅contains no corn syrup (corn syrup free)
✅contains no maltodextrin or sucrose (maltodextrin free, sucrose free)
✅Clean Label Purity Award winner

The key to bottle acceptance and preventing bottle preference is introducing early, consistently, and in a position that mimics latching. Allowing your baby to control the flow of the bottle with positioning and pacing creates a positive experience and increases chances of bottle acceptance!
